Grim/Gongmyung Project Concert (Sea Forest)

Again in National Theater of Korea; a robust performance by Gong Myoung and Grim collaboratively. Both of these are music groups with different focuses, where later focuses on traditional music representing nature and the former represents western music. By the amalgamation of both of these music group, the concert which we attend on 13th of July, was a beautiful blend of traditional and contemporary western melodies.

I was invited by KTO as a supporter to attend this concert which was worth watching. I got at the Dongguk university station and then got to the national theater of korea by the shuttle bus, settled on the seat in the hall and here began the show.

The show was kind of thematic where different themes from nature were depicted alongwith the melodies tunes of traditional Korean and western music which colored the event to its fullest.
Number of themes were used in it like:
Rain run
Fish of galaxy
Dancing wave
Sori island
Deep sea
Spring dance
Snow queen
Ga-gaek
The hunter moon
It was really a very nice concert and was worth of praise for the hard work put by the performers. The audience present there was very cheerful and they clapped by heart for the performers. I definitely enjoyed it especially the themes which they played in form of melodies and pictorial depiction by playing background multimedia moves of nature.

Far East Earns R16 B-boy World Championship 2013

R16 B-Boy World Master Championship 2013:
This year B-Boy world championship was held on 13th & 14th of July at Olympic Park Complex in Seoul.
I arrived at the Olympic Park Complex around 5 pm and after getting the ticket from KTO (Korea Tourism Organization), I got in. Many people were already lined up to watch the performances of the energized B-boy performers coming from all over the world.
The seating arrangement was quite good providing a comfortable sitting place. The show started at around 6 pm with the introduction of the anchor persons and the individual B-Boys stars.

There was a five point criterion to judge the performances including, basic skills and innovations. The energy level of both the audiences and the performers were very high throughout the performances. Performers presented a great amalgamation of basic skills and innovations in their work. They were very synchronized while performing in groups.

The team which earned second position was of Japan; Body Carnival and the first position was of Korea's team; morning of owl earning 5000$ and 15000$ respectively.
After the contest was over, it was time for hip hop show. Jay park was among the most desired persons to show up at the end. He entertained the audiences in his specific way.
The performance was really great and a lot more than expected. It was a huge show attended and enjoyed by a large number of people. It was one of the few programes I really enjoyed being in Korea.

Again after 5 years: Puri Music Group in South Korea

Puri is a world music group which performs in South Korea in every 5 years time span enabling the audience to look back in the past to get some know-how of traditions and culture through music.

The performance was held in National Theater of Korea, on Dongguk university station, Jung-gu, Seoul on Friday, 5th July, 2013.
The performance hall was quite spacious and beautiful having the capacity to encapsulate almost 800 people. The show was of 2 hours in total and was enjoyable enough. As this time, the group was celebrating its 20th anniversary, the performers were performing to their full capabilities and they were really good at music and at singing as well.

The Puri music basically is a mixture of traditional and modern music instruments which creates an unbelievable musical rhythms very pleasant for ears. I enjoyed the music as well as the audience's full support translated in claps. Although, the language was not understandable for a few of us, but even than the rhythms were very blunt and soothing. An interesting thing was that pansori; which is a traditional song performed by a woman, was performed by a man who gather a plenty of claps on the part of the audience.

Drum Cat Performance

I was invited to see Drum Cat performance in Gaon Hall theater, B3 floor in the Myungbo art hall at Chungmuro Station on 29th of June, 2013. It was by the courtesy  of KTO that I got a chance to see the performance.
I arrived the designated place at 4 pm and after getting my ticket, I made my way into the hall where the performance was already started.

Many performances by drum cats were lined up transforming the show into a mix of rhythm and fun. Drum cats is actually a group of female drummers performing to the best of their abilities to the world. I guess these cats has got the ability to stun the world by their rhythmic drum shots.

Drum cats has also won different awards so far. 2008 was landmark year for Drum Cat, as the group received both the ‘2008 Edinburgh Festival Herald Angel’ award and the ‘2008 Scotland Cavalcade Best Unit’ award, the first awards even won by a Korean team at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
The performance of Drum Cat comprises of 5 themes: Sexy, Speedy, Funny, Powerful and Wild. A far cry from traditional drumming, the performance focuses on a modernization of rhythm: combining and reinventing rock, jazz, techno and Latin rhythms into a unique blend of sound.
It was a first show of its kind which I saw in Korea which gave me a good opportunity to enjoy the music played on drums.
